I have found through the years the best program to use would be malwarebytes, as they have a simple virus scan, as well as a running application(with premium).. I followed their instructions and all my programs are working again. In the work area, locate "DisableTaskMgr". What damage has been done to your registry? In the work area, double click on "Remove Task Manager" and set its value to Disabled or Not Configured.
I'd also like to pit it against Doug Knox's Security Console if I can find my copy of it amidst all of my downloads! does windows reinstall or repair those files when I reboot. ever since I did this I've been getting access denied when trying to change settings in the policy editor. Re-enable 2 and I can't find Prevent Access to Registry Editing Tools anywhere in the system section.
